IPL 2024, RR vs MI: Yashasvi Jaiswal thanks ‘Sanga sir and Sanju bhai’ after scoring comeback hundred

RR’s star opener Yashavi Jaiswal was grateful to head coach Kumar Sangakkara and captain Sanju Samson for giving him opportunities after he scored his comeback hundred. Jaiswal’s 2nd century against MI propelled RR to an emphatic win by 9 wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on April 23, Tuesday.

Jaiswal, while speaking to the broadcasters after the match, was elated about roaring back to form. The 21-year-old revealed that he was focusing on playing proper cricketing shots and enjoyed his stay at the crease.

“Thank you so much, I really enjoyed from the start and I made sure I was watching the ball properly and playing proper cricketing shots. I’m trying to do what I am doing well, some days it comes good and some days it doesn’t, I’m not thinking much,” Jaiswal said. IPL 2024, RR vs MI: Match Report

The star opener was under the scanner for not delivering in the tournament as per his standards, especially after his record-shattering performance against England in the 5-match Test series. However, it was only a matter of time as Jaiswal showed his class.

Batting first, MI were restricted to 179 runs with Sandeep Sharma picking up his maiden 5-wicket haul in the IPL. In a rain-curtailed match, it was raining sixes and boundaries as Jaiswal raced away while chasing the 180-run target. Jaiswal thanked his seniors for backing him and guiding him during the practice session. The batter managed to repay that faith shown in him by his team with his unbeaten knock of 104 runs from 60 balls. Earlier, Jaiswal had managed to score only 121 runs in the first 7 matches for Rajasthan.

“I want to thank all my seniors the way they have guided me. I want to thank the Rajasthan Royals management and especially Sanga sir and Sanju bhai for giving me opportunities. I go out and give my best in the practice sessions and I’m so happy today,” Jaiswal added.

He became the first player to score a century before turning 23 and both of his tons came against the 5-time champions, Mumbai. It was a memorable win for RR at the home turf as they played their last match of the season in Jaipur.
