IPL 2024: Devon Conway joins CSK team at Chepauk after being ruled out of season

Star New Zealand batter, Devon Conway, joined the CSK squad at the Chepauk. Conway was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to a thumb injury, but has made a return to the team. A few days earlier, CSK had announced Conway’s replacement as England’s Richard Gleeson was added to the squad.

The CSK team shared a special picture of Conway, who was sitting on the pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The franchise captioned the post, “Dev at Anbuden.”

The IPL had released a statement regarding the star New Zealand batter being ruled out of the tournament entirely. Earlier, he missed out on just the first half of the tournament. Conway underwent surgery to treat the injury which he picked up while playing in the T20I series for the Black Caps against Australia in New Zealand.

“Devon Conway has been ruled out of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an injury. Conway, who represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK) throughout the last two IPL seasons, played 23 matches and scored 924 runs, which included 9 half-centuries and a highest score of 92*.”

“CSK have added Richard Gleeson to the squad for the remainder of the TATA IPL 2024. Gleeson has represented England in 6 T20Is and has 9 wickets against his name. It has been learnt that Conway joined the CSK team for practice ahead of the T20 World Cup and to undergo rehabilitation after his surgery.

Conway has been one of the star batters for CSK ever since he was picked by the franchise in the mega auction of IPL 2022. In 23 matches for CSK, Conway scored 924 runs with 9 fifties and a highest score of 92.
He had a brilliant run for CSK in their title-winning season, with 671 runs in 16 matches at an average of 51 and a strike rate of nearly 140.

In Conway’s absence, Rachin Ravindra has been opening the batting for Chennai. However, after a couple of highly impressive knocks to start with, Ravindra has not impressed so far.
