Video: China struggles as heavy rain and floods sweep away cars

Guangdong Province in southern China is currently experiencing severe flooding due to torrential rainfall and high water levels in major rivers, including the Xijiang and Beijiang river basins.

The situation is described as “grim” by local weather officials, with sections of these rivers hitting water levels that only have a one-in-50 chance of happening in any given year.

The floods have led to the evacuation of over 45,000 people in Qingyuan and affected 1.16 million households across the province, causing power outages and disrupting transportation.

This is the second major flood to hit Guangdong this month, with thunderstorms affecting southern parts of Guangzhou two weeks ago.
