IPL 2024, RR vs MI: Sandeep Sharma rattles Mumbai with record 5-wicket haul for Rajasthan

Fast bowler Sandeep Sharma made the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler while playing for the Rajasthan team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The speedster achieved the feat in RR’s match against Mumbai on Monday, April 22 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The record was earlier held by Yuzvendra Chahal, who had figures of 4-0-40-5 against Kolkata back in 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Against MI, Sandeep finished with figures of 4-0-18-5. Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir still holds the record for the best bowling figures by an RR bowler after his spell of 4-0-14-6 against MS Dhoni’s CSK way back in 2008 in Jaipur. Left-arm pacer James Faulkner had figures of 4-1-16-5 against SRH back in 2013 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

On the back of Sandeep’s spell, RR restricted MI to 179 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. He accounted for the wickets of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David and Gerald Coetzee. In the last over, he gave away only 3 runs and accounted for 2 scalps. He dismissed Tilak and Gerald to find himself on a hat-trick, but Piyush Chawla did not allow him the milestone.

In the ongoing IPL, Sandeep has picked up 6 wickets from 3 matches at an economy rate of 6.90. The speedster has been taking part in the IPL since 2013. In 119 matches, the 30-year-old pacer has taken 130 wickets at an economy rate of 7.84.
